First Saturdays are a monthly celebration along the Market Street Mile featuring late opening stores, live music, and other street performers. This fun event also features prize draws, scavenger hunts, and art exhibits. Each First Saturday follows a special theme and brings in many visitors from nearby cities and towns. Fire in Ice in February is the year’s most-anticipated First Saturday celebration. This festive event features ice sculptures and carving demonstrations, fire performances, and s’mores stations. Maryland Craft Beer Festival takes place in Frederick each May. The festival offers great beers as well as food vendors, arts-and-crafts stalls, and other activities. The National Clustered Spires High Wheel Race is also held in May. This unique annual event sees old-fashioned tall bicycles racing through Frederick’s streets. The Great Frederick Fair in September is one of Maryland’s largest agricultural fairs. The Fair is a weeklong celebration with a huge carnival, nightly live music, truck and tractor pulls, livestock exhibits, equestrian events, and drinks from top local wineries, breweries, and distilleries.
