Mount Airy hosts a variety of fun events throughout the year. The Lions Club Carnival in June has rides and live music performances. Also in June, the Hometown Chili Cook-Off and Custom Car Show in Downtown Mount Airy has prizes for the best chilis as well as live music, family-friendly activities, local craft beers, wines, and custom cars from across the country. Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company organizes the annual MAVFC Carnival in July. Mount Airy Oktoberfest in late September has a Biergarten with German brews, traditional Bavarian cooking, two stages of live music, and a kids’ corner with lots of activities. Since 2012, Mount Airy has hosted the Mid-Maryland Celtic Festival. This Scottish-themed celebration features Highland games, bagpipe performances, Scottish and Irish dancing, and a British car show. There are a total of 11 parks within Mount Airy. 2.3-acre Wildwood Park offers a children’s playground and trails in a tree-shaded natural setting. Watkins Park also has nature trails and play structures as well as off-leash dog areas. Prospect Park extends over 12 acres with a gorgeous fishing pond at its center. Prospect Park’s other amenities include a basketball court, picnic pavilions, and a playground.
